At 18 years old, I moved from China to the United States. This transition has shaped me into the competitive woman I am today. Facing a new culture, I was taught by my family to never give up and always strive to improve myself through any difficulty. With this belief, I’ve capitalized on any opportunity to strengthen my abilities. Despite all the adversity, I graduated as class valedictorian of high school.
I currently attend Queens College where I am driven by a passion to pursue Graphic Design. I enjoy expressing my creativity through design. My dream is to be able to use my work to influence and lead people. One thing I am proud of is designing my graduation gown and wearing it proudly while giving my speech on my high school graduation day. Design is like water for me in that it is a daily necessity that keeps me moving forward in life.
In addition to my studies, I am active in my local Chinese community where I’ve worked as an after-school teacher, helping students with their homework and teaching immigrants English. As a creative and competitive student, America Needs You is an incredible opportunity to develop strong communication and leadership skills. Moreover, my Mentor Coach will help prepare me to achieve my professional goals. I am proud to be an America Needs You Fellow.
