I was raised in South Chicago for most of my life. Personally, I think it’s important to pursue a higher education, but I also have my mom to thank for always encouraging me. All her hard work and countless sacrifices haven’t been in vain. I am currently attending Harold Washington College with the Stars Scholarship, which I am taking advantage of by exploring the different possible majors that I can pursue. After Harold Washington, I am excited to transfer to a four-year university.
My mother has always told me how important it is to have a career that you love and to be open to new experiences. Through my scholarship and internship experiences, I have been able to gain knowledge in various fields like media, entertainment, and social sciences. I have also had the chance to develop my professional skills. For example, the leadership skills and confidence that I am gaining as Program Assistant at SkyART are valuable skills that will carry with me. I am excited to pursue opportunities in the future where I will be able to further explore these fields and continue to develop my skills.
As an honored 2016 Fellow, I am grateful for this amazing opportunity to practice networking and interact with professionals in various industries. Through ANY, I will also be able to create lifelong bonds with other Fellows and Mentor Coaches that will help me through my educational and professional journey, including being the first in my family to complete a bachelor’s degree. I appreciate all that ANY does for students like me, and I am determined to introduce ANY to future first-generation college students I encounter so that they also take advantage of this great opportunity.
