I grew up in Astoria, Queens and was exposed to the city that never sleeps, full of people that will stop at nothing to reach their goals and achieve their dreams. I grew up with the mentality that giving up isn’t an option and obstacles should be faced head on, and these are values I intend to keep. Being the first in my family to attend college pushes me to grow into a better person and absorb the wisdom and drive of those around me along the way.
I am currently a rising sophomore at Hunter College, working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I want to work in the field of Pediatric Psycho-oncology because I have a passion for aiding children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer and supporting their families through these challenges. This desire grew within me while taking care of my younger brother who was born with cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus. As a family, we learned the best ways to help him and overcame this challenge together. I want to take my knowledge and help other families overcome similar obstacles.
Throughout high school and in college, I did not have someone to look up to for guidance in academic and career choices. The America Needs You family exposes me to the environment I seek: one full of knowledge and determined people. At ANY, I am surrounded by motivated Fellows with passions of their own and Mentor Coaches bearing experiences to share and great advice to offer. This is the best place for me to thrive as I pursue my dreams.
