I was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey. I am a second year student at Montclair State University pursuing a degree in Biology. I am interested in emergency medicine because of the fast paced, team-oriented environment it offers. During the summer of 2016, at Cooper Medical School, I took pre-med courses, developed skills in areas such as patient-care, and participated in hands on experiments. In addition, I also volunteer at University Hospital in Newark which offers me the opportunity to gain physical and emotional skills, such as managing stress levels.
As a Haitian American, I can personally relate to the negative effects of having inadequate resources in communities in underprivileged countries. Lack of resources has impacted citizens’ health and more. For that reason, my ultimate goal as a physician is to aid communities in underprivileged countries that lack proper healthcare resources while also spreading awareness.
