My story begins on the island of Thasos, Greece where my parents had moved to after the fall of communism in Albania to seek a better life for their growing family. Through hard work they succeeded in creating the lives they wanted for themselves, but wanted more for their children. So after a decade of hard work they left the security of the lives they had built in Greece and immigrated to America to start over once more.
My parents are the inspiration for my strong work ethic in life. I am now putting this same work ethic to practice as a Queensborough Community College student and as an America Needs You Fellow, in effort to help accomplish my career and life goals. These include becoming a film/television producer, an ANY Mentor Coach, and a writer. I still remember the time I first saw the film, A Bronx Tale, in which the main character tells his son, “The working man is a tough guy.” This memory reminded me of my relationship with my father and the words of wisdom that he always passed on to me. Thanks to my parents who brought me to the land of opportunity and America Needs You, a program that helps connect ambition with opportunity, I can achieve my goals through hard work.
