I was born and raised in Bangladesh and at the age of 16, I moved to the United States. My native language is Bengali but after coming to the United States, I have learned to speak English. I am a first-generation college student and the eldest child in my family.
As a rising sophomore at the City College of New York, I am working toward my Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering. I want to specialize in the development of medical devices. After graduation, I plan to get a job in this field and continue my education by attending medical school.
Aside from school, I currently work at an Indian cloth store as a salesperson where I educate customers about the products and make it my priority to satisfy their needs. This job helps me strengthen my communication skills as well as practice Hindi, a new language I am currently learning.
I recently joined the New York Fellows Program which is a great learning environment and significant resource for me. Throughout this two-year program, I will build the professional skills needed to be successful in the workplace. I am excited to have Mentor Coaches who will be strong leaders to guide me and share their experiences. The two summer internships I will complete before the end of the program will provide me with work experience relevant to my desired career. Through workshops, internships and mentorship, America Needs You will help me achieve my career goals.
