I am an Honors Program student at DePaul University, pursuing a degree in Political Science and Economics. I was first exposed to politics at an internship at 43rd Ward Alderman Michele Smith’s campaign office where I worked with a team in voter contact to increase our Lincoln Park engagement and to improve the overall efficiency of the processes in the Alderman’s office.
Currently, I am a Student Shelving Assistant at the John T. Richardson Library. As a Shelving Assistant, I work with shelving and sensitizing teams on several library-wide improvement projects. Organizing the John T. Richardson Library’s important media resources gives the under-resourced youth of my neighborhood an opportunity to become the next tech entrepreneur or brain surgeon. I’ve learned that even the smallest of jobs can have a great impact on the community around you.
These experiences have solidified my interest in community organization, policy advocacy, and non-profit work. The America Needs You Fellows Program will allow me to further explore careers in Political Science and Economics while also allowing me to explore other industries. Through the workshops and mentorship program, I will not only know what career path is the right fit for me, but I will also have the skills to innovate and make a difference in people’s lives. I am excited for the two-year journey with the Fellows, Mentor Coaches, and America Needs You family.
