My parents emigrated from Bangladesh to a small one bedroom apartment in New York City in 1994 with the hope of a better life for their family. Through my parents’ hard work and perseverance, my family was able to move to a better neighborhood where I was able to excel in school and ultimately attend college. It is with the utmost gratitude to my parents and all of their sacrifices that I was able to achieve this major milestone in my life.
I recently transferred from Hunter College and am currently a rising sophomore at Siena College, working towards a degree in Economics and Management. After college, I plan on pursuing an MBA. Presently, I work as a communications intern at the Downtown Alliance, helping the non-profit organization market and promote its efforts to restore lower Manhattan. My future aspiration is to work in corporate strategy and assist in building world-class businesses through the development and implementation of operational strategies across all parts of the operation. I hope to gain enough business experience to one day go to Bangladesh and help those who are less fortunate through economic empowerment.
Being a part of the New York Fellows Program will help me achieve an enhanced level of professionalism I would not have been able to reach alone. In the end, I hope to share all of the fortunes and opportunities provided to me by others with my parents, my community and the world.
