Julie Hoffmann is the Illinois Executive Director at America Needs You.
Previously, Julie was the Managing Director + Head of Development of A Better Chicago, a nonprofit venture philanthropy fund that provides funding and management support to a portfolio of high-performing nonprofits that are dramatically improving educational outcomes for low-income students in Chicago. Julie was responsible for developing and leading the organization’s fundraising and external relations strategies, as well as serving on the leadership team of the entrepreneurial and rapidly grown nonprofit. She helped lead the organization to more than triple its revenue growth in four years and launch A Better Chicago’s ten-year strategic plan to significantly increase college graduation rates in the city.
Prior to joining A Better Chicago, Julie was the director of development and communications for The Cara Program, one of Chicago’s leading workforce development programs. In this role, Julie significantly grew Cara’s private funding and built the organization’s development office. She also played a lead role in developing Cara’s strategic plan as a member of the senior management team. Earlier in her career, Julie was as a consultant for Volunteers for Economic Growth Alliance in Washington, DC and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Peru.
Julie earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology and Spanish from Vanderbilt University and an M.B.A. in international management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. Julie serves on the Chicago board of directors for Peer Health Exchange, the board of advisors for Adventure for Charity and a mentor for Chicago Women in Philanthropy’s Women’s Leadership Mentoring Program.
