Liz Buerger is the Illinois Program Coordinator at America Needs You.
Prior to joining ANY, Liz spent six years working at a charter public middle school in Boston. As a special education teacher, she supported student growth through academic support designed to meet the needs of diverse learners. She also worked closely with staff, students and families to coordinate and track individualized student behavioral plans. As the co-director of the school’s tutoring program, she drove student achievement through the support and management of 42 recent college graduates serving as full-time tutors, while also overseeing all program logistics.
Liz attended Washington University in St. Louis, where she majored in History. While at Wash. U, she tutored middle school students through the University’s YMCA and participated in a variety of student-run dance performances. She also received her Masters of Science in Education, Mild to Moderate Disabilities from Simmons College in Boston. Liz is originally from New York, and enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time exploring Chicago.
